UDJAA offers both sideline and competitive cheer teams. Programs are available to children in
grades K-8.

SIDELINE CHEER
SEASON: September- November

Our sideline cheer program is a great introduction to cheerleading. Sideline cheerleaders will learn
cheer basics, including motions, jumps, and beginner level stunting skills, while cheering on the
Upper Dublin Youth Football Club.

Teams are created based on age and number of registrants, as well as volunteer coaching support.
We strongly rely on parent volunteers to run this program. Please consider volunteering to support
sideline cheer!

Practices are once a week at Upper Dublin elementary schools. Location and time vary each
season, depending on availability of facilities and volunteer coaches.

Games are typically scheduled for weekends and cheerleaders can expect to attend 6-8 football
games each season. Most games are at our home field, SPARK, but there may also be some away
games at nearby high schools. Please see the Upper Dublin Youth Football Club website for all field
addresses and directions. Game schedules are determined in the fall.

Uniforms (including pom poms!) are provided for the sideline cheer program, and returned at the
end of the season. Families are asked to supply their cheerleader(s) with white sneakers/cheer
shoes, red bloomers and white turtlenecks for under uniforms.

Coaches are volunteers! Whether you have cheer experience or not, we are always looking for

COMPETITIVE CHEER

Competitive cheerleading is a high energy, team-based, performance sport that focuses on
cheering, stunting, tumbling, jumps, and dance. Each season we create new routines that highlight
each of these skills to compete against local, regional and sometimes national teams! UDJAA’s
competitive cheer organization is considered an Affiliated Recreational Cheer Team and competes
in Traditional divisions.

Teams are divided by age/skill level. Typically we have 2-3 teams, however this can vary based on
the number of registrants. Teams are ultimately determined by coaches during tryouts, which are
held at the end of each school year.

Tryouts may sound intimidating, but cheerleaders will meet multiple times to practice in the week
leading up to tryouts. At this time they will learn a cheer, short dance, jumps, and review tumbling
technique. At the end of the week, cheerleaders will perform these skills in small groups to help
determine team placement. Attitude and enthusiasm are also considered!

Practices are held 1-2 days per week in the summer. Once school begins, teams practice 2-3 days
per week with 1-2 weekend practices per month. While summer practices are not required, we do
require cheerleaders to adhere to a strict attendance policy during the school year. This ensures
team safety and productive practice time. Practices are held at Upper Dublin schools, typically either
Maple Glen Elementary School or Upper Dublin High School, depending on site availability.

Competitions vary each season, but teams can expect to compete in roughly 4-5 local
competitions, with the possibility of competing in regional or national competitions.

Cheer Camp is included with registration. This weekend event encourages team-building while
learning new skills from professional UCA (Universal Cheerleaders Association) cheerleaders. It
takes place locally in the fall (not an overnight camp). Attending UCA Cheer Camp allows
cheerleaders the opportunity to compete at the regional or national level.

Uniforms are not included in registration fees. New uniforms are approximately $200. We do often
have a limited number of used uniforms available at half cost. Uniforms do have stretch and are
often able to be worn for multiple seasons.

Given the team nature of the sport and long season, this program does require dedication. If this
sounds like too much for your child, please consider our sideline team.

**All participants must be registered prior to tryouts.

**UDJAA Sports allow up to 25% of a team to be non-residents of Upper Dublin. If you are
considered a non-resident, it is possible your child may not be placed on a team because of this
residency restriction.

**IF a child is not placed on a competition team, a refund will be provided as soon as possible.
Participants will still have the option to participate in sideline cheer!
