UDJAA Code of Conduct

UDJAA Code of Conduct

UDJAA - CODE OF CONDUCT

Upper Dublin Junior Athletic Association Code of Conduct: Each Coach, player, and

spectator (parent, grandparent, sibling, etc.) will ensure that his/her conduct is that of

sportsmanship before, during, and after all games, practices, drafts, and all other UDJAA

sponsored activities. To satisfactorily meet these responsibilities, all individuals are

expected to:

● Know, understand, and appreciate the rules of the contest - a familiarity with the

current rules of the game and the recognition of their necessity for a fair contest

are essential. Good sportsmanship suggests the importance of conforming to the

spirit as well as the letter of the rules.

● Respect the game officials and refrain from questioning their decisions or from

addressing them in a loud, disrespectful, or abusive manner – criticizing the

officials teaches young people to disregard the "authority principle."

● Cheer for your team in a positive, supportive manner, refraining at all times from

making hostile, negative, or abusive remarks about the opposing team or players.

● Show respect for the opponent at all times. The opponents should be treated as

guests; greeted cordially on arriving; given the best accommodations; and

accorded the tolerance, honesty, and generosity, which everyone deserves.

● Maintain self-control at all times - a prerequisite of good sportsmanship is

understanding that rational behavior and personal actions are more important than

the desire to win. Good sportsmanship is concerned with the behavior of all

involved in the game (coach, players, cheerleaders, teachers, parents, and other

spectators).

● Demonstrate appropriate gestures of sportsmanship at the conclusion of the game,

win or lose.

● Realize, accept and practice the principle that a team's reputation is built not only

on its playing ability but also on sportsmanship, courtesy and citizenship of its

coaches and fans.

● Recognize and appreciate skill in performance, regardless of affiliation. Applause

for an opponent’s good performance is a demonstration of generosity and good

will that should not be looked on as treason. The ability to recognize quality in

performance and the willingness to acknowledge it without regard to team

membership is one of the most highly commendable gestures of good

sportsmanship.

I agree to abide by the Upper Dublin Junior Athletic Association Code of Conduct

whenever participating in a UDJAA sponsored activity. I also acknowledge that

failure to follow the Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action, which may

include suspension or banishment from UDJAA activities.
